Fat berg ( BIN IT DON'T FLUSH IT)

Author: Katie Holmes

Toilet Rules

Please only flush pee, poo and toilet paper down the loo. As millions of people suffer the misery of blocked drains every year - a result of unsuitable products being flushed down the loo or washed down the drain.

Myth- buster:Wet wipes do not break down as quickly as toilet paper, they lurk in the pipes and merge with fats to create a huge rock hard fatberg. A wipe also contains plastic and other man made materials which persist in the environment. Even if wipes say 'flushable' they should not be flushed down the toilet bin it instead.

Sink Rules

Never pour oil and fat down the sink. When it cools it sets hard clogging your pipes, the majority of blockages are caused by cooking fat and oil, which congeal in the sewers, forming a thick layer around the pipe.

Myth-buster: Running the hot tap and pouring washing up liquid down the sink wont prevent fats or oils from blocking your pipes. Each year approximately 1000 homes and 5000 gardens flood with sewage as a result of blockages in the sewers.
